Increased mileage, increased risk, damaged runner

I’ll review the Brands Hatch half marathon in a few days, my second event since I returned from injury. That race was the culmination of a week of steady increased mileage. Monday 22km Tuesday 11km Wednesday 11km Friday 11km Sunday 21km. Not a massive week but my highest training mileage in months. However, at kilometre 14 yesterday every single pain I’ve been working so hard to keep at bay came thundering back and I hobbled home.

I sat last night looking at my list of upcoming races and in my head I was seeing the word ‘cancel’ and worse ‘DNF’. Right now I’m not 100% sure about the best thing to do – other than no running for a day or two.

We all hate Monday’s but I don’t remember one where I felt this deflated. Bummer.
